About the Short Stay Visa for Remote Workers
The short-stay visa for remote workers or digital nomads was created by Executive Decree 198 on May 7, 2021. The main purpose of this visa, of Non-Resident category, is to encourage tourism of travelers with telework.
To access this visa the person must meet the following requirements:
• Have a contract with a foreign company of a transnational nature. That is, to be a self-employed worker in teleworking mode.
• Perform functions that have an effect abroad.
• Have income from abroad with an annual amount of at least 36,000 balboas or its equivalent in another currency.
Once this short-stay visa as a remote worker is granted, it is valid for 9 months, extendable for the same period. It will also allow the person to work in telework mode within Panama and will not need an additional procedure or obtain a permit from another state entity.

Remote Worker or Digital Nomad Visa Processing
In addition to meeting the aforementioned requirements, to apply for this visa you must meet the following:
• Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of application.
• 5 passport size photos (2 inches x 2 inches)
• National criminal record certificate, recently issued, apostilled/authenticated by a Panamanian consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
• Copy of the medical insurance policy with coverage in Panama during your stay. If it is an international policy, recently issued, apostilled / authenticated by a Panamanian Consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
• Proof of the existence of the foreign company in the country in which it is registered (certificate of incumbency and good reputation) recently issued, apostilled / authenticated by a Panamanian consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
• Work letter signed by the legal representative indicating name, ID, position, employment, annual income (minimum $ 36,000.00 per year) or its equivalent in foreign currency, remote work modality and the clear statement of assuming the cost of repatriation if necessary. Recently issued, apostilled / authenticated by a Panamanian Consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
• Signed declaration of non-acceptance of job offer or provision of services in and during the stay in Panama under the visa.
• Proof that the income comes from abroad, you must submit one of the following:
o Bank certification letter, stating that the income is received from abroad and the work condition under which the income is received, recently issued, apostilled / authenticated by a Panamanian consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
o Or bank statements for the last two months of a foreign bank, stamped by the bank showing receipt of funds and showing that the funds are linked to the declared work, recently issued, apostilled/authenticated by a Panamanian consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
• Power of Attorney and Application Forms (provided by Padilla)
Self-employed applicants must provide the following:
1. Certification or proof that the company is registered in a foreign country or that the company you work for is located outside of Panama. Recently issued, apostilled/authenticated by a Panamanian consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months
2. A signed declaration indicating the general details of the applicant, the list of clients, the service provided to the client, the regularity of payments, the origin of the funds paid to the applicant and the number of payments. Recently issued, apostilled/authenticated by a Panamanian consulate in the issuing country – valid for 6 months

PROCESS AND TIMELINE
The process lasts 40 working days, once the file is submitted.
Before your trip:
1. Get the required documentation, taking into account the validity of each document
2. Please email copies to our team for review before step 4. Plan your trip.
3. Receive approval of documents from your Padilla Abogados case manager
4. Authenticate the required documents and email copies to our team.
5. Start the services of Padilla Abogados
At least 4 weeks before your trip:
1. Our Team will perform a final review of your documentation
2. Confirm your stay and complete the required forms.
3. FedEx or DHL any authenticated document for second authentication
4. Panama Legal Translators will translate the documentation, including apostilles for your residency application if the documents are in the languages mentioned above.

If we have not received the documents 1 week before your arrival, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to complete the process within the proposed timeframe indicated internally.
